The book is unofficial which means Disney takes no part in the publication. This doesn't downgrade the book in any way though. In fact, I expect the author would be more honest about the parks because he doesn't work for Disney. He is writing about the places to go and see at Disney and being honest if something isn't as amazing as you've heard. He doesn't hype things up to get more theme-park-goers.
The book goes into great detail about everything! It gives you advice for planning and it gives you crowd estimates and even talks about the special ticketed events so you can see if it is worth paying the extra money or not. The book also goes into detail about all the accommodations Disney provides including policies, Fast Pass/Magic Band information, benefits of staying at a Disney resort, and more. This edition even talks about the Disney Cruise Line. All editions discuss what is new in the parks though not as much detail is given to extremely new attractions since these books are written so far in advanced I imagine. And there are even tips for visiting other parks like Universal and Sea World. Yep, this book literally has it all.
When my family and I went to Disney last year, we used the guide book mostly to plan where we were going to eat with the Disney Dining Plan. The book is split by each park so when you arrive to the Dining Section and want to find places to eat at Epcot you just find that park's section and can see a chart of all the restaurants, their ratings, and if the restaurants serve snacks or meals for the dining plan.
